OBJECTIVE I believe that our elected
representatives must be committed, and dedicated, to ensuring that Queenslanders
receive a better quantity of parliamentary representation in Canberra than is
presently the case. Currently, the two major political
parties manipulate the political agenda in Australia. Elected party politicians
are, for all intent and purposes, obligated to the party hierarchy, and not to
those who elected them. The rigid party structure does not
allow for fundamental issues of importance to the electorate to be subjected to
constructive debate, rather, are decided by unelected party officials. Since Federation, there has been
numerous Independent Members of Parliament who have distinguished themselves by
their diligence to their electorates, their achievements to their electorates,
their integrity in their dealings, in addition to their objectivity in
Parliament. Respectfully Selwyn Johnston
