Citizens Initiated Referenda Précis of Initiative and Referendum Proposal
We present the précis of our concept of a reasonable and practical application of Citizens Initiated Referenda. We do so as a non-aligned and non-party political lobby group with a genuine desire for constructive and non-emotional discussion. We take pride in the fact that since our inception in 1988, we have retained our philosophical and political autonomy, and through that, our credibility. Our concept of Citizens Initiated Referenda has met with the approval and support from both sides of the political fence in most instances. Academics have found it refreshing, and people of common sense have supported it. Generally, we have found that those with a genuine interest in improving our system of Government at at both levels of (State/Federal) Government and local Authorities (Regional Councils), and those who wish to see an enhancement of our democratic process, have welcomed our proposal as practical, feasible and desirable. Naturally, the concept of this proposal applies to at both levels of (State/Federal)Government and local Authorities (Regional Councils). The system is the same in each case, but the terminology would change accordingly. We present this paper to you, hoping that you will view our proposal with an open mind, and in an atmosphere which will encourage sincere and genuine discussion.
